Herbal Repository Project Logo How can you help?

Herbalism is probably the oldest branch of medicine.  Some animals still practise a recognisable form of  herbalism by eating certain plants when they are ill.  It is most probable that herbalism in humans pre-dates the point in evolution when we became homo sapiens.  Current interest is very high and many people in the UK have used herbal remedies.  Despite this, knowledge of the properties and usage of herbs in medicine is very fragmented.  Research is very limited and nowhere near the scale of that undertaken by pharmaceutical companies on designer drugs.

There is much good will towards herbalism from all sectors of society.  The Herbal Repository project needs to convert this good will into active support.  We need help from organisations and individuals and this can take many forms.  Some will have expertise or facilities which they can contribute.  Some will be short of time but will be able to contribute financially.  Some will be able to contribute by making public their support for our objectives. The first step is to contact us.

Some organisations and individuals will be able to benefit directly from the project.  The Herbal Repository will be a very powerful tool for those who are actively developing or practising herbal medicine.  Some ways in which you can help are shown below:

Expressions of Support

It is important that we are able to demonstrate public support.  You may show your support by writing a letter to Roger Caws, Project Manager, The Herbal Repository, c/o Newport Health Food Centre, 5-7 St Mary's St., Newport, Shropshire. TF10 7AF or by visiting our comment page.

Donations

The project needs seed corn funding.  Donations of any size  are very welcome.  Money at this stage is especially valuable because it will enable us to cover the expenses of formal presentations and demonstrations which are required to secure major funds and sponsorship.

Expertise and Facilities

The Herbal  Repository will need expertise from a very wide range of disciplines, some not obviously connected to Herbalism.  Professional services  (lawyers, accountant, lobbyists, politicians to name a few) are very welcome to help establish The Herbal Repository, to ensure that it attracts the support necessary, to provide access to the data it will need, and to find a way of making the results of the project available to those who will benefit from them.

Sponsorship

Parts or all of the project may be sponsored.  The sponsor will obtain rights appropriate to the amount of sponsorship, to his particular interests and needs, but consistent with the objective of  allowing wide access to the final data base.

Investment

The Herbal Repository itself will be organised on a financially viable though not for profit basis,  The technology associated with Affinity databases is of high commercial value and investors in the project will be allowed to benefit through spin-off projects in other fields of knowledge.

Active Patronage

We would like to hear from people of good will who can influence public opinion, open doors or assist in obtaining financial support.

Herbalism Needs Your Help

Herbalism is under threat because people of undoubted good will feel that they have nothing to contribute. It is vital that your good will becomes visible. Please support the Herbal Repository project in one of the ways mentioned or possibly in some other way which we may not have thought of.
